Use your own AI key
Already pay an AI provider directly? Plug that in and Kaeru stops counting.
Kaeru comes with its AI built in, so you never need an account with anyone else. But if you already have your own key from a provider, you can use it instead.
When you do, Kaeru counts nothing. Your requests are unlimited, because you are paying your provider directly for each one.
Adding a key
Add it in the Kaeru app, under Settings. It is stored in your computer's keychain and never sent to our servers.
The app switches over automatically. Your Usage page will say You are using your own key.
Kaeru will never ask for your key on a website
The dashboard has no box to paste a key into, and it never will. If anything claiming to be Kaeru asks you to paste a provider key into a web page, it is not us. Close it.
Removing it
Remove the key in the app, on the same Settings screen. Kaeru goes back to its built-in AI and your plan's allowance.
Who is this for?
Most people never need this. It is here for the few who already have an AI subscription and would rather use it.
